About Us

Connecting EVA is an alliance of survivors, multi-sector service providers, and community leaders who meet regularly, speak bravely, and act boldly to end violence. From our diverse living experiences, we’re building on existing successes and acting to eliminate systemic barriers to improve community responses to the needs of survivors of GBV. We maintain an accurate, accessible resource hub to provide a clear pathway for information and support sharing in order to reduce the risks of experiencing GBV for rurally-located women, girls, gender-diverse people, and their families. EVA Renfrew County advocates for systems change to address critical gaps in services experienced by people impacted by GVB. We’re a member of Building a Bigger Wave: a feminist-based, volunteer network of passionate professionals and advocates who believe it is vital to strengthen existing multi-sector tables known as Violence Against Women Coordinating Committees (VAWCCs). Sharing EVA creates and delivers public education learning opportunities for individuals, organizations, institutions, and the community overall. We’re talking to emergency responders and healthcare providers, educators, legal system workers, grassroots organizers, as well as our friends, family members, and neighbours about GBV - because everyone is responsible for ending violence. EVA Renfrew County speaks truth about GBV and we remember those who have been victimized. We’re stewards of the Women’s Monument in Petawawa. EVA has hosted an annual community Vigil on December 6th, National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, at this site since ______. Amplifying Across all our platforms, EVA Renfrew County educates community members, organizations, and institutions about existing services that increase access to support for diverse communities. EVA Renfrew County is reaching-out to build stronger connections with newcomers, youth, 2SLGBTQQIA+, and Indigenous community groups so that we can effectively and accountably show-up as allies in anti-violence work. EVA Renfrew County participates in community events, like Take Back the Night, that empower those impacted by GBV. We’re exploring ways to centre survivor voices in our Survivors Advisory Circle where we’re also learning how to better respond to the needs of those impacted by GBV and address barriers to participation. Mobilizing EVA advocates for the legislative changes needed to bring an end to GBV and engages the elected officials who have the power to enact these changes. We’re currently participating in national collective actions protesting the proposed funding cuts to Women and Gender Equality Canada. We’re also increasing public awareness of the impacts of GBV through our involvement in the national We Stand with Survivors campaign. EVA continues to give education and advocacy presentations highlighting the Recommendations of the CKW Coroner’s Inquest to all levels of government and leadership within Renfrew County. We’re working to ensure that GVB is officially recognized as an epidemic and responded to appropriately.
