Women’s Monument
Monument des femmes
The Renfrew County Women’s Monument was created to remember, honour, and grieve local women of Renfrew County who have been killed as a result of gender-based violence. Situated along the Emerald Necklace Trail between Algonquin and Harry Streets in Petawawa, the Monument is within view and hearing of the rapids on the Petawawa River.
The Monument is made of three steel sculptures of women, as well as standing and memorial stones.
Members of EVA’s predecessor organization, Renfrew County Committee for Abused Women, worked with community partners for six years to fund, find a place for, and design the Monument, which was unveiled in Petawawa in 2013. The Monument was designed by Cormac artist and blacksmith Lydia Vanderstaal and Mary Crnkovich, the owner and operator of Touch Stone Masonry in Killaloe.
